I met Olav, one of the founders at WoodFour Brewing in Sebastopol, a few weeks before they Guest Hosted a SonomaChat Food & Beer Pairing to die for. Much impressed was our crew of Wine Lovers at the spread of food and sour beers that WoodFour Brewing Co Owners Seth & Olav along with Chefs Jamil & Matthew, had set up for us.
The level of food quality as well as the perfection behind some of the pairings made the experience even better.
I had hung out with Olav after a SonomaChat at Macphail Family Winery which is situated across the street from WoodFour in the new Barlow Shopping Plaza. Olav is passionate about hops, brewing and his establishment. His enthusiasm was contagious.
We returned as a SonomaChat group to a wonderful sour beer line up – Each paired with a lovely plate of food. Sour beer is well loved among us wine fans due to the higher acidity levels compared to most beers.
Agreed. The Saison Noir and the Berliner Weiss, a german style beer were my favorite and I absolutely loved the idea of adding simple syrups to the sour beers to change the flavor profiles, a technique used in Berlin sometimes I understood although don’t quote me on it.
Overall, the food, beer and wine list at Woodfour Brewing was top notch including faves of mine like Cairdean Estate Russian River Pinot. The restaurant also has a terrific new “Pop Up” Dining room on MOndays where they feature Ramen. Wowsers… we needed a good ramen spot in Sonoma County.
