Wine, Food, Views, Oh My! An expansive winery patio perched high above the valley floor, combined with acres of vines stretched out before you, and some amazing wine and food choices. Not too shabby.
With all of the options available, it is easy to find YOUR perfect wine experience at Sbragia Family Winery in Dry Creek Valley.
With their hilltop setting, one hears the sound of the wind rustling the vineyard leaves below, glasses clink as people celebrate the area and Sonoma County puts on quite the show. Each and every day here on the Sbragia Winery Patio.
It seems like the perfect spot to create special moments and to stay awhile enjoying a picnic and a glass.
A plate of cheese, a glass of wine… as you break into the bread, spread a soft melting cheese over the top, add a fig compote, or perhaps some dried cranberries… and just enjoy the experience.
From the bucolic, vineyard-lined roads that take you through the Dry Creek Valley to the steep, terraced slopes going up the hillsides, the views are straight out of a wine country guidebook at Sbragia.
The winery offers a few different tasting flights at the tasting room bar, outside on the terrace and in their custom wine library room. They will even customize an event for your party with a call in advance. What is IT you are looking for?
Pack up a spread and drive yourself down the wine road of Dry Creek, or pick something up to eat right on-site at Sbragia, with a choice of local foodstuffs and various small bites.
You can bring your own food and enjoy lunch with friends, which is a wonderful option for both locals and tourists alike.
I saw many cyclists as well, enjoying a stop along the wine country bicycle paths before continuing down to Lake Sonoma. The Lake Sonoma Recreation Area and Camping Grounds are just beyond the winery with Sbragia being the last stop along Dry Creek Road before you come to the Dam.
Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about buying the cheese ahead of time, because they have plenty on hand, not to mention these lovely artisan $5 jars of flavored nuts, how delightful with my Cabernet on High!
Taste through a flight of wines with your picnic or simply grab a bottle (or two) from the tasting room and enjoy with your meal at your leisure.
The glasses, plates and views are right at hand for you with customers service and attention to detail at an all time high. It’s a wonderful place to lay out your spread.
Anyone who follows me on social media, knows that I have scouted winery picnic spots around Sonoma County (rough life, I know) and found that this spot is in my top 20 for most pastoral, the most gorgeous, the most relaxing. It’s tranquil, with breathtaking view of the vines and Dry Creek Valley, heavy with vineyards. But let’s not forget the fabulous food and wine.
Find the perfect table, pull out the provisions, sit down with other wine-lovers, uncork that bottle. Here on the Sbragia Family Terrace, the celebration goes on forever.
I haven’t even started in on how fabulous the wine line up is here at Sbragia. Ed Sbragia’s family was in the wine business dating back to his grandfather and in good Tuscan tradition, great red wine was a part of every family dinner.
After a wonderful 32 years as Winemaster at Beringer in Napa Valley, they helped Ed Sbragia start his own family winery, Sbragia Family Vineyards.
Ed and his wife, Jane Sbragia, purchased the old Lake Sonoma Winery facility in 2006 and this is where Sbragia Family Vineyards started its very own winery. 10 years strong with many generations of wine making already running through the history of the family.
As Ed states
“I’ve always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally.”
Working with his father in their family vineyards in Dry Creek Valley while growing up, Ed learned a love for the area. Although he had worked for many years on building a strong reputation as a Master of the Cellar and a Top Notch Wine-maker in Napa, he maintained a love for the Healdsburg region where he had raised his own family and children.
The wines here are intensely personal to the winemaker and to the land. They are an expression of terroir while at the same time show off the family’s wine-making heritage.
“The family vineyards are my father’s legacy to me and my children. I love this land and making wine from it, and bottling it under the family name affirms all the work my father did for me. It’s something I had to do to say thank you to him, my dad, Gino.”
