A Hashtag… & A NonProfit Idea.
It is an online community that loves and chats about Sonoma wine AND… some wonder, is there more to it?!?
Simple Answer: Yes.
There is more. The hashtag #SonomaChat was started with just one tweet paired with much enthusiasm by founder: Amy Lieberfarb and her audience of wine-lovers.
#SonomaChat happens every Wednesday from 6-7:00 pm Pacific Standard Time on twitter.
And… SonomaChat is ALSO… a Soon to Launch Childhood Literacy Non-Profit in Sonoma County. One thing that Amy Lieberfarb is MORE passionate about than wine…. is her children. @SonomaChat & @SonomaReaders
After noticing a real need in her community for a better public school library system… she decided that she is not the type of woman to sit idly by.
Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History.
It was time to take action. Why is Amy soo darn passionate about wine and food paired with school libraries??… A unique pairing!
When her children were in 2nd grade, she decided to transfer both girls from a private school system to the public one.
After much research, she moved to one of the best neighborhoods in her city and enrolled the kids in a school with terrific programs, libraries and residual funding.
However, during the research, she could not help but notice the vast differences in public elementary school ratings and literacy scores.
When delving deeper into the problem by meeting with school librarians, her local school board (where she was a Board Member for 2 years), and with
SCOE (Sonoma County Office of Education), Amy learned that the problem was critical in some areas of Sonoma County, especially those with higher levels of at-risk youth.
As Amy told SCOE, “It was time for someone to take action using the resources that Wine Country has to offer”
Sonoma Counties childhood readers are our future leaders. The non-profit plans to launch programs in 2017 designed to benefit public school libraries and librarians in Sonoma County. Amy Lieberfarb believes it is time to get the “right” books into the hands of school children and supply ALL children with access to reading materials based on their own interests. A solid plan that will harness the power of the librarian.
Learning a love for reading is something that is developed at a young age and needs to be nurtured in order to grow. Readers are leaders.
Amy has been working for almost 3 years, establishing the nonprofit brand, tasting A LOT of wine (rough life) and creating a Board of Directors made up of local wine and food industry gurus and owners. These wine and food business leaders will come together to help the community and the children.
How can I be a part of #SonomaChat? What if my business would like to help public school libraries in Sonoma County?
Currently The #SonomaChat Non-Profit is in pre-launch mode with more information coming by the beginning of 2017… they really appreciate all the initial support of the local community and wineries.
If you would like to join the SonomaChat Community and take part each week, let the community know that you are willing to help and give advice, tips or more information on a Sonoma County Leader or Business, please….
Anyone can join in the conversation. Every Wednesday night on twitter LIVE from 6-7pmPST.
Each week #SonomaChat is averaging between 220 and 350 contributors, with an average of 2.5 million impressions and a reach of over 1 million each Wednesday night.
And to think it all started because Amy Lieberfarb saw a need… and had the drive to do something about it. Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History.
