Living only 15 minutes from the beauty of Mount Hood. Life is rough.
Being able to enjoy it while sipping on a variety of lovely wines. Priceless.
When walking through the mission style courtyard, a statue of St. Francis of Assisi points the way to the vineyards beyond. St Francis was a man who is so well renowned that the current Pope choose to take his name. Above us, the bell tower houses a 1,000-pound bronze bell brought over from Italy. It chimes on the hour adding to the ambiance.
*I have visited many times since this post – See our Full Food &Wine Article Here… for photos of the fabulous food and wine pairings you will dine on at St Francis should you schedule a visit.
Making your way down the path, you get your first glimpse of the winery and its Mount Hood backdrop. Breathtaking views. The images I captured couldn’t have timed the season better. With yellow, orange, purple & red shining in the sunlight, fall was in full force here in the vineyards of Kenwood.
I first heard about St Francis, not only from driving past, but also from people who enjoy the Zagat recommended food and wine pairings.
I have included pictures from different seasons as I visit often and enjoy the aforementioned food and wine. In fact, my twitter profile features St Francis gardens and vineyards with farm tractor posing perfectly as a prop. Weddings, events, luncheons with the girls and more can be had in the vineyards.
I personally liked their Old Vine Zinfandel last time I was there approximately 4 months ago but new releases are soon to be had around the Sonoma area, exciting. Time for a return trip. Also love the small plate tapas style food presentation. This is a wine and food spot that was voted #1 Restaurant by Open Table recently.
With the small bites and various yummy wines to sip, it is hard to go wrong. For the foodie or wino, this place is a great stop when driving the Hwy 12 wine road.
Quoted as being “One of the very few dedicated onsite winery chefs in Northern California wine country, St. Francis Winery Executive Chef David Bush has an unconventional approach to pairing the best of Sonoma County ingredients with the exceptional, handcrafted wines of St. Francis.”
There are also some terrific recipes online on the Winery Website to peruse when you have a chance to get a feel for the kind of cuisine to expect. Or perhaps you live in Idaho but want to cook some delectable bites from home while drinking St Francis wines, log on to the internet and get started
