Timed our trip out to Shell Beach perfectly for sunset views this time…always a plus when visiting the Pacific from the West Coast this time of year.
With what seemed to be perfectly calm water & almost empty shores, nothing could have made our timing more ideal.
Bodega Bay & the shores of the Sonoma Coast are 30 minutes from Chateau Lieberfarb. Awesome. Especially when the views remind me on Hawaii. And when I am armed with a lovely bottle of Macphail Pinot Noir.
We enjoy taking the trip out to the sea every few months. For the kids, the allure is the Salt Water Taffy Shack, shell hunting, & ocean waves in general. For us adults, the allure exists on soo many levels…starting with the views. West Coast Sunsets Rock!
Our mission was two-fold, other than forcing our kids to spend time with us adults – We also needed water samples. Requiring water from two different sources for my 9 year old’s Bio-Diversity project. Armed with her new science collection kit in hand, she put the samples in the specimen jars to take home. All smiles.
She is overjoyed at the new Microscope she got for Christmas and I highly recommend buying the more expensive & higher magnification models. They are VERY much worth the extra money. She constantly collects new items to put on her slides and it has taught her how to care for a higher end item that requires constant maintenance, sanitizing & upkeep.
This is good for her age & also to understand the cost of expensive equipment balanced with the functions & opportunities available to her when using proper test equipment. Carly loves science projects. New hypothesis & theory abound in our house.
Sonoma Coastline has a variety of beaches & more than 17 miles of coastline to enjoy.
Wine is yummy too folks, so don’t forget to visit local Sonoma Coast faves such as if you have the time. Small batch Pinot Producers (appt only) like Dutton Manzana and Kanzler from Kosta Browne or Macphail Family Wines have lovely Vineyards along the coast & small batch wines. Or visit Flowers Winery to sip & enjoy the spectacular views from the top of the mountains along the coast. *Clink *Clink
We collected our water samples, shell samples, seaweed samples and the ever-important crab leg sample & relaxed as a family to watch the sun go down. Moments like this are priceless. My 12 year old points out that they are even better when enjoyed with taffy. Cheers.
