Tasting through Single Vineyard Wine is one of the best ways to educate your palate on true “sense of place”.
Terroir matters in the vineyard.
Terroir is important due to the combination of elements suited to growing a particular varietal of grape at one specific location.
To label your bottle as a “Single-Vineyard” wine, while also keeping the wine industry happy, a wine-maker must reference that the wine in that bottle comes from a single vineyard site.
The vineyard is named on the bottle in proud declaration… Thank a Farmer.
At Patz and Hall’s Sonoma House in Sonoma County, one can learn about single vineyard wines while tasting through their collection or perhaps…
while wandering through the Estate Vineyards or perhaps…
while enjoying hand-chosen locally sourced gourmet food bites paired to complement the wine perfectly…
Choices, choices. Patz & Hall offers visitors a variety of options when visiting, see their website above for more information. But I digress… which often happens when I am drinking amazing wine.
Single vineyard bottles are from a particular vineyard, grapes grown there, have been isolated from all other vineyard areas and practices. They are grown and farmed separately on purpose. What makes a winery do such a thing?
Wine-makers who KNOW what they are doing and have years of experience are well aware that…
the combination of good soil, topographical features, sunlight, temperatures and clean water conditions are imperative to making quality wines.
Single vineyard wines, are thought of by both winelover’s and Sommeliers alike, as a mark of quality.
The vineyard and the farmer are in control of the balance and harmony for premium grape growing.
One of the added benefits, when sipping wine from a bottle that uses a single vineyard, is that more attention to the grapes is given on that particular site.
Farmers rule.
Ultimately, don’t winelover’s all strive to sip a higher quality wine?
Yes, please.
Labeling wine with a single vineyard designate is still a relatively new practice. California did not see vineyard designated premium wines until the 1966 vintage Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
I am a big fan of Patz and Hall’s Sonoma House, the architecture, the people, and don’t even get me started on the fabulous wine!! or just see the infoabove…. single vineyard wine is their specialty.
Thank me later once you visit Sonoma House, because it is well worth the stop, when visiting Sonoma County Wine Country California.
