Senses Wines Sonoma Coast on SonomaChat

May 11, 2014 · by Amy Lieberfarb ·

20140903_170608“We’re farmers first, then winemakers.” –Senses Wines

20140903_165431“Sonoma Coast Wines made from small batch family owned vineyards and we are talking Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sign me up. When I first chatted with co-founder of Senses Wines Christopher Strieter about Guest Hosting an upcoming SonomaChat, he had mentioned taking the whole gang over to Zazu to enjoy fabulous bites from local Celebrity Chef, Duskie Estes.

Well, once you mention Pinot Noir in the same sentence as Duskie, you have me sold. I have long been a fan of both.

We met with Christopher and his sister and my new wonderful friend and not to mention SonomaChat Ambassador, the lovely Kelsey Strieter. They were a terrific pair and balanced each other perfectly just like the balanced wine from the Sense Wines group. Time to pour the Chardonnay first. And it was a great start to introduce us to the complexities that the Senses vineyards create with their cool climates.

20140903_165232(0)As he poured, Chris told us the story of Senses and how the 3 Founders had decided to start this venture into the world of wine. Growing up together locally, all 3 Founders were raised either on the vineyard itself or in the Wine Country lifestyle of their families.

Two of the vineyards producing grapes for the label belong to the family and have been leasing grapes to names like Littorai, Landmark and Williams-Selyem for many years previous.

I myself have loved the Thieriot Vineyards for years under the Littorai label and I was looking forward to the new winemakers since each person brings something new to the batch.

20140903_173725The Pinot Noir was lovely and the Chardonnay the same especially when paired with wonderful cheese & charcuterie plates, bacon wrapped dates and bacon popcorn even… Senses is a new wine label and I am excited to see where this next few years will take them and to try their newest venture in a Sonoma Pinot Rose wine.

20140903_182502Senses is the dream of three childhood friends – Chris, Max and Myles – who reunited after many years with the vision of producing small-batch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from family owned vineyards.

Senses focuses on high quality wines from the West Sonoma Coast in northern California, specifically in our hometown of Occidental. The West, or ‘True’ Sonoma Coast, is known for delicate, nuanced wines that exhibit balance and depth on the palate.

Our wines embody the natural and distinct characteristics of the coastal vineyards from where the fruit is sourced.

20140903_174527(0)The team believes that the vineyards are their greatest assets, and meticulously farms each vine so that the winemaking process can be as hands-off as possible — ensuring wines with complexity and finesse year after year. Grapes are harvested at ideal ripeness primarily based on taste, cold-soaked for a few days, fermented with native yeasts that live in the vineyard, pressed and barreled into a selection of our favorite French cooperages.
