Do you know what I like to find in my wine glass?!?
Finesse and Focus.
Mission accomplished… as I arrive at the Healdsburg Hacienda and I find myself sipping a lovely Sonoma Rosé.
Working with both the familiar as well as the more unconventional wine varietals, this small batch, family owned winery focuses on creating a nuanced expression of that particular grape.
Started as a small project by passionate people, Reeve Wines, is now finding quite the cult following of wine lovers in Sonoma County and beyond.
Owned by husband and wife team Noah and Kelly Dorrance who already had quite the fanbase with Noah as co-founder and head winemaker at Banshee wines and Kelly as the woman behind the launch of the Banshee tasting room and wine club. A powerhouse Sonoma County pair… these two.
Reeve Wines is named after the couple’s young son who happily runs through the vineyards, regularly helping his parents, along with his big sister, Remy.
Banshee Wines grew quick and steady with real critical acclaim for the wines being poured. They also grew quite the dedicated group of fans as the wine club grew.
Recently, with their new project at Reeve, they are
“Aiming to create a small creative outlet for some new varieties, with new ideas and grapes from new places.” –Noah & Kelly Dorrance
Their winemaking partners in crime?!?
Ross Cobb (Cobb Wines, Hirsch, Flowers, Williams Selyem) and Katy Wilson (LaRue, Kamen, Flowers). Sign me up!
I love the style of bottle that these two produce, especially as a team, and have enjoyed many a glass that they have touched with their magic winemaking wands. Ross and Katy have a real focus on the place where the grapes were sourced from and sense of place in the final product. You can taste the vineyard.
The source of such lovely fruit?!?
Sonoma and Mendocino County vineyards that are organic, biodynamic, or have established low impact techniques are the name of the game at Reeve Wines.
Their small batch 40 case Syrah knocked my socks off… The Rosé is also to die for and comes in Magnum size… for those of us that prefer our …
Rosé all damn day.
The Pinot Noir is lovely and the Riesling is a real gem.
Recently, at their wine club pick up/ Anniversary party, I enjoyed the Riesling paired with fabulous Thai rabbit sausage and slaw from also local Chefs at Khom Loi, Sebastopol.
A perfect pairing indeed as the white wine really cut through the spice of the sausage while not overpowering the flavor itself. Brava to both winemaker and chef for thinking up this pairing. The lovely Emily Martin, editor of Jet Setting Fashionista, and I both had a blast sipping, dining and dancing the day away on their beautiful piazza.
Bottled Reeve Wines first vintage in 2015 with about 1500 cases. Single vineyard wines, estate cabernet blends and small batch focus. Yes, please.
Most wine bottles are available only through the wine club, mailing list, or tasting room. A few are available in the online store.
Feel free to reach out to find out more.
Reeve Wines has purchased a lovely piece of property along Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg, California with vineyards, beautiful old Hacienda buildings for a tasting room and facility as well as a gorgeous Estate Property at the top of the hill with views galore of the Dry Creek Valley vineyards below.
For those of us locals, including myself, I remember visiting the land when it was owned by Kachina Wines and I was soo happy to see the love and effort that had been put into the property by Kachina and since by the Reeve team.
The Hacienda building and patio overlooking the Cabernet vineyard and rolling hills covered in vines beyond that is also a real gem of a view.
Taste wines under the trees in a wooded style setting atop the hill above Dry Creek Valley. There is a naturalness to the land here with minimal intervention by the developers. Soo many gorgeous old trees. Buildings seem to fade into the woods they are set into.
Visit soon for a glass – Appt only so call first at least a few days in advance to arrange for a tasting.
Thank me later, they are fabulous and a favorite of mine, for the people, the place and the wine.

Why we do it.
The dimensions of wine are infinite. From the fog that rolls in from the coast, to the seabed soil that nourishes the vines, to the hands that lovingly tend to the grapes, to all the intuition used during harvest and fermentation, to the sharing of a finished bottle with loved ones. And all that falls in between. It’s no wonder there are few better feelings than having a glass of balanced wine. Each one is a particular snapshot of a time, place, and the people involved.
It’s the love and appreciation of all of those moments that drew Noah Dorrance into the world of wine. The launch of Reeve Wines gives the winemaking team of Noah, Ross Cobb, and Katy Wilson a studio in which to explore new spaces in their wine worlds. Together they are creating nuanced, elegant expressions of both the familiar and more unconventional varieties.
Come on over.
