August 16, 2016 · by Amy Lieberfarb ·

A day dedicated to Pinot Noir?!? Someone must have seen my glass coming… & planned accordingly.

For people who like to savor the good things in life, this grape varietal offers a vibrantly diverse spectrum of flavor profiles and can be stylized to the picture of elegance.

DSC_0643Pinot Noir seems more like an art form here in Sonoma County than just merely a wine grape. This thin-skinned yet plump little fruit has created quite the fan-base dedicated to the endless pursuit of knowledge and balance.

At Patz & Hall’s Sonoma House, they have a passion for Pinot Noir with laser sharp focus on handcrafting small-lot and single-vineyard wines. What a perfect pairing for Pinot Noir Day this August!!

DSC_0661On August 17th Patz & Hall Co-Founder and Winemaker James Hall will GO LIVE on Twitter from 5-6pm Pacific Standard Time to Answer YOUR Questions… and chat online about Single Vineyard Pinot Noir for #PinotNoirDay at @PatzHall.

Pinot Noir has an effect on people.

The seductive aromas of the varietal are like pheromones to us Pinot lovers. Our sense of smell can trigger intense, emotional memories… Add a few notes of vanilla from aging in oak barrels and you get a sexy glass of wine.

Patz & Hall’s Pinot Noir program captures the vibrant diversity of this exceptional varietal. In the winery, they craft wines that balance the depth, power and purity of Pinot with elegance, structure and finesse.

DSC_0564At Sonoma House by Patz & Hall, guests can taste through wines from the cool-climate of the Sonoma Coast to sought-after single-vineyard bottlings from the Russian River Valley, Carneros, Mendocino and Santa Lucia Highlands.

Love Pinot Noir?

There is no better place to immerse yourself in it than Sonoma County at Patz & Hall.

Relax as you look out over the estate vineyards tucked along the edge of the Mayacamas Mountains while enjoying acclaimed Pinot Noir wine… Yes, please.

During the #SonomaChat, August 17th on Twitter, Winemaker James Hall will reflect on the unique characteristics of site and growing environments for this specific varietal.

Co-Founder of Patz & Hall, James will walk us through his personal choices to focus on single vineyard small batch wines that best demonstrates and defines the unique characteristics of site specifics and growing environment as reflected through that particular Pinot Noir.

DSC_0445This grape is a notoriously temperamental variety, proving difficult to grow in certain climates and soils.

Who better to teach us about this thin-skinned variety than a man who has been a dedicated Pinot Noir winemaker for over a quarter century?!?

Since 1988, founder and winemaker James Hall has guided the Patz & Hall wine- making program, instilling it with his own boldness, imagination and trademark perfectionism.

Combining a belief in great viticulture, traditional winemaking practices, and the judicious use of innovative techniques, James has earned a reputation for crafting dramatic benchmark Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs that balance vibrant power with vineyard-inspired depth and sophistication.

HOW TO #SONOMACHAT

DSC_0618With wonderfully heady perfumes, and excitingly pure, sweet, fruit-forward berry flavors… the Pinot grape captured my heart early on. I continue to be surprised by the quality of Pinot Noir from specific vineyards each year at Patz & Hall, I am a big fan of their label, the whole team and the winemaker.

Pinot Noir is notoriously difficult to grow and vinify, making the wineries who have been in the game the longest, true rockstars! A winemaker must be at his or her best to work with this wine varietal year after year.

A truly fabulous glass of Pinot Noir should create a lasting impression on the palate and… in the memory banks. It is an exciting varietal to explore.
