The terrific Jim Morris of Macphail Wines Guest Hosted #SonomaChat at the new tasting room open in Sebastopol, California at The Barlow. Macphail Family is another fave Pinot Noir of mine, hand picked and hand sorted is the best way to go if you ask this girl and James and his family winemaking styles really go the extra mile.
They have just opened a tasting room as before when I wanted a sip of their wine, I would visit their small winery situated right next to the family home in Healdsburg. The new tasting room is part of The Barlow project in Sebastopol, where “makers” and creationists gather together with shops, stores and winemaking facilities all in one stop.
I recently toured The Barlow Sebastopol and visited many of the wonderful businesses that have opened in the last year with the management at The Barlow and the man behind it all, Maker, Barney Aldridge. Macphail is still one of my fave stops for the oodles of charisma from the people pouring the wine and the lovely outdoor / indoor feel. The wine rocks too….but I already mentioned that. Chin Chin…

James MacPhail, producer of small-batch Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rose from the Sonoma Coast, Russian River and Anderson Valley, has developed his own customized winery in Healdsburg. It was completed in time to receive the 2008 harvest – MacPhail Family Wines’ sixth vintage.
“This little winery allows me to fine tune my winemaking, crafting small lots with traditional techniques, minimal intervention and hands-on attention,” says James. “My use permit is for only 5,000 cases, so production will remain small in scale and personal in style.”
