#SonomaChat was hosted by Laurel Glen Vineyards located in Glen Ellen, California in June of 2014. They were our very 1st Guest Host on Twitter, partnered with Patz & Hall Winery in Sonoma, CA.
Our big thanks to Bettina Sichel for her hospitality, big pours and smiling face. It is always a pleasure to see her and I appreciate her support of myself and my nonprofit mission from day one. Hanging at the Laurel Glen Tasting Room with Bettina & Jacqueline is a terrific way to spend an afternoon. Start with the Rose…the story is terrific.
When I first had the pleasure of visiting Laurel Glen, I was traveling with Jet Howell from Wine Country This Week for Sonoma Reserve, an Annual Sonoma County event, We toured the vineyards on the mountain tops as well as visited the tasting room in Glen Ellen to taste through their wine library.
What a treat. Since then, I have visited many times. My favorites when visiting Laurel Glen would have to be:
- Cabernet & Chocolate Pairings (Created specifically for Laurel Glen by local Sonoma Chocolatiers & winemaker Randall Watkins.)
- Open House Time – Got to try Counterpoint a fave of mine & watch Boz Scaggs play the guitar all at once – locals rock!
- Bettina & Jacqueline themselves & their taste in purses. Kate Spade rocks too.
- Cabernet Vertical – Last few times I was able to try the 2003, 05, 07 and 09. This is Cab wine that really holds up to aging and in fact is quite lovely with time…My fave the 1st try was the 07, second try a year later was the 03, only time will tell.

THE BIO –
From the website HERE:
From the beginning, Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has been made with minimal handling, using gravity flow whenever possible, and keeping all lots separate. We strive to make a mountain wine that is soft, supple, intense, fragrant and balanced, and over time through trial and error we have achieved it.
Laurel Glen Vineyard, a thousand feet up the slopes of Sonoma Mountain, has long been considered one of the iconic Cabernet vineyards of California. Originally planted in the 1880’s, the present-day vineyard was developed in the 1970’s by Sonoma wine pioneer Patrick Campbell. The 1st vintage of Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was made in 1981.
The vineyard’s combination of high altitude, eastern exposure, rocky soils, and small diurnal temperature swings combine to produce very distinctive wines. Despite its small production, the wine has received international acclaim for its exceptional balance, elegance and ability to age gracefully.
