Laid Back Luxury at Nicks Cove in Tomales Bay

March 12, 2016 · by Amy Lieberfarb ·

Fresh ocean breezes, tranquil coastal charm, romantic sunset views, luxury cottages, on-site award-winning cuisine… the list goes on and on…

Have I mentioned the Oysters?!?

Nick’s Cove may just be one of my favorite places ~ Ever.

Having this gem located only 35 minutes from my home… Priceless.

DSC_0625With all of the adventures that await us along the California Coast and in Sonoma County’s Wine Country itself, Nick’s Cove in Marshall, is the perfect spot to relax once the day’s activities are complete.

The spot boasts the “coolest” boat shack you’ve ever seen… EVER at the end of the long pier right beside the restaurant.

The oyster shack also comes complete with a communal table, a piano, an antique wood fireplace, and a phone…. where one can order directly from the restaurant… and have one’s order delivered right to oneself.

One… could get used to this.

DSC_0412This fresh seafood centric location is perfect for ocean lover’s who also fancy a glass of wine with their meal.

With over 400 wineries to choose from, Sonoma County is sure to have the right wine for any seafood dish. Finish your bottle of wine on the private deck in your luxury cottage at Nick’s Cove.

The rooms at Nick’s offer a true luxe style but laid-back retreat vibe…

DSC_0352Each model features a shabby chic twist on a nautical sea-faring theme; amenities include clawfoot tubs with rain-shower features, private balconies over the water at high tide, with some rooms offering wood-burning stoves and large living room retreats, perfect for a rest after a long day outdoors.

Located in Tomales Bay, Nick’s Cove is a true outdoor adventurist’s dream. The sunsets are just as phenomenal as the lobster mac & cheese… which you must try… and don’t get me started on the fabulous cocktails.

IMG_20160203_154525845I stayed in the cottage on the end of the road… with two separate bedrooms and bathrooms, a wrap-around deck,  shabby chic farmhouse accents and antiques, 2 claw foot tubs with heated floors, a living room with couch, wood-burning stove, plasma TV, and an honor bar stocked with wine, coffee, tea, and spirits…

Not too shabby to say the least.

My happy place and favorite room by far.

IMG_20160203_154251943The waves lap against the deck as the fog rolls into the bay along with the tide in the evenings.

When the tide starts coming in, it is high time to head only a few steps down the private road, to the on-site Restaurant & Oyster Bar and the wonderful creations of local Chef Austin Perkins.

Using items sourced from local suppliers as well many ingredients picked fresh from Nick’s own onsite garden, the Croft, Chef Perkins creates dishes focused on fresh fish, local meats and seasonal vegetables with his own added flair.

DSC_0536Deviled Duck Eggs – Baked Oyster Mornay – Black Truffle Risotto – Moroccan Style Braised Mussels… be still my heart.

Not to mention, Nick’s serves breakfast, DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO YOUR ROOM IN THE MORNING.

Attention to detail and keeping guests smiling at each turn is the name of the game at Nick’s Cove. This hospitality team works a little harder than all the rest.

From the Website:
“…We enjoy the smell of cedar and eucalyptus in the air every morning, and watch the sun set over Point Reyes every evening.

DSC_0397We’ve discovered that sometimes it’s the simpler comforts that make your stay truly memorable – a delicious meal made from fresh seafood and local farm produce, a warm fire and local vintage in a beautiful dining room, a plush bed with crisp linens and an elegant bathroom, and friendly, attentive service.

Sometimes it takes a little extra effort to deliver that kind of experience, but that’s precisely the point.

DSC_0558Our staff is truly dedicated to providing timeless luxuries in a setting of rustic elegance, and our guests notice the difference. That’s how we’ve always done it, and we plan to keep it that way…

Wake up to the gentle sound of waves lapping on the shore, then step outside to a pristine view of Tomales Bay.

Nick’s Cove is a paradise for kayaking, fishing, hiking and biking.

DSC_0340At Nick’s Cove, pets are part of the family. We bake healthy dog-treats fresh from our kitchen, supply rooms with dog towels, and leave plenty of water bowls around for our thirsty friends.

From our elegant Crab Louis salad to our Tomales Bay barbecued oysters, our fresh, award-winning dishes are locally sourced and expertly prepared.”

“Nick’s is a very special place that honors and respects the area, giving visitors a glimmer of an agrarian life that’s so near but really so far from the city consciousness. It seems impossible to believe it’s still in the 415 area code.”

–Michael Bauer, SF Chronicle

DSC_0643Cell phone service in the area can be quite spotty, but the WiFi is complimentary, yay!

What I wonder… Who needs a cell phone anyway… with all this beauty around?!?

Just returned from Pigs and Pinot in Healdsburg. Had dinner at the River’s End in Jenner for the first time. Incredible scenery and sunset. It looks like we need to hit Nick’s Cove next trip up there! Thanks for the great article!
