When walking into your favorite wine shop, you may notice that all the bottles look relatively the same. Yet the price varies a great deal. Finding a high quality California Cabernet Sauvignon for a ‘fair’ price can seem like quite the challenge these days with so many producers and rockstar brands making great Cabernets from the Northern California region.
So when you find a good one and for the right price point. Buy it up… is my theory.
Recently I had the pleasure of attending a winemaker dinner where I found just that.
The golden ticket wine.
A good tip to find the most value from a bottle of wine… is to choose a region where the highest-quality wines of your favorite varietal are produced and start your search there. For Cabernet Sauvignon, many people would agree that Sonoma and Napa are the place to be. Although, there are definitely some high priced bottles being produced there, if one knows what they are doing one can always find an exception to the rule.
Bellacosa is a rare and valuable find. Winning!
Recently named One of the ‘Ten Hottest Wine Brands’ by Wine Business in 2016 and ‘America’s Hottest Wine’ by Forbes in 2017, if you have not heard of this label yet – YOU are definitely missing out on a good thing! Just sayin’.
The 2014 vintage sold out in less than 10 months even with 25,000 cases produced. Are YOU paying attention yet?!?
Walking the vineyards, hands in the soil, working in the cellar, racking barrels and cleaning tanks, the founder of Bellacosa was raised around some of the early California wine industry stars – winemakers such as Helen Turley, Merry Edwards and Steve MacRostie to name a few.
Dan Cohn grew up in Wine Country and in a winemaking family and it shows in the bottle. With Bellacosa, Dan has set out to create an experience that is truly his own.
Made by hand in pursuit of purity, flavor and finesse.
Bellacosa Wine also embodies the connection of soul and experience; a subtle force that brings people together. The 2014 vintage sold out, grab the 2015 for only $25… that is… while it lasts! No, that price is not a typo ~ $25 is the golden ticket number.
A deep dark boysenberry color with a rich and velvety texture on the mouthfeel, this is a wine to savor with dinner or simply on it’s own. Some oak spices to note and a rich plum too. Fine tannins with just a little earthiness on the finish and a long finish at that.
“…Daniel Cohn’s 2014 Bellacosa, a delicious supple, and savory wine that defies the stratospheric Napa pricing game. Check it out!”
–ROBERT PARKER -WORLD RENOWNED WINE CRITIC
Sold online and shipping to most states in the U.S. it is also an accessible bottle which can be a rare thing in the Napa and Sonoma Valley where, oftentimes, one has to visit the tasting room to buy a bottle. Dan Cohn also features an Oakville Reserve bottle that takes Bellacosa to a whole new level of delectable. The reserve is made on a very limited basis and knocked my socks off… It is undeniably- and unapologetically- unforgettable.
In 2015, when his family’s iconic wine brand BR Cohn sold, Dan started his own personal journey to create a brand that is uniquely his own. Receiving rave reviews on his 1st vintage from Robert Parker, Founder of the Wine Advocate, Dan has positioned himself as a luxury wine brand for Cabernet lovers to keep their eye on.
You can buy all of Dan’s wines direct from the website, by the bottle or case, shipped right to your door. Currently, Cohn is traveling the world, bringing wine lovers the big announcements, the best releases and a host of great ways to enjoy his wine. You can also join the VIP Circle for those extra perks us wine lovers adore.
You would assume that a man who had received such rave reviews right out of the gate would have quite the ego about his brand.
But so is not the case when it comes to Daniel Cohn. Laid back, unassuming and straightforward would be better descriptors for this man. He’s also a lot of fun to party with… Just sayin’.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan and tasting his wines at a party thrown by Sommelier to the Rockstars, Ziggy Eschliman, at her personal home. When Ziggy send an invite to a shindig… my answer in inevitably – “Hell Yes” … She throws the BEST parties with the most gorgeous settings and of course fabulous pours in the glass!
The evening was also hosted by the equally fabulous Deutsch Family who markets quality wine and spirits produced by prestigious families from major wine and spirits regions of the world. And the Deutsch team is ALSO much fun to hang with. I love being a part of a Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits event and have loved getting to know the members of their team better over the years.
Check out my videos and photos here of this fabulous evening of wine, friends and fun and watch even more of these videos as I post on youtube and social media channels throughout the week.
It was an incredible time with incredible wines. We got to taste both the 2015 vintage and the amazing Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon too.
Growing up in and around the world of wine, Cohn has many long standing relationships with iconic grape growers in both Sonoma and Napa Valley which should lead to even more rave reviews for future vintages. At least, that is my prediction.
There are many factors which may influence the ability to make great wine. And access to great vineyards may be at the top of this list.
You can’t make great wine without the right grapes and the right FARMER!
Cohn has has developed and nurtured the long-standing relationships that his family has had for decades with some of the region’s most respected grape growers. A Cabernet that is lush, elegant, and usually outperforms other California Cabernet Sauvignon at the same price and even ones priced much higher.
Are you getting YOUR glass ready for a taste? I bet you are.
Cheers!
