Inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope and the stunning images captured, Iron Horse Vineyards has created Stargazing Cuvée! Time to pop some bottles… at night… drinking to the stars!
Whether you’re an astronomer, a space buff, or just love wine with incredible bubbles and flavor – THIS is the bottle for you. The winery chose a vintage 2014 Brut LD from their extraordinary cache of bubbly en tirage, developed a special dosage, and disgorged 250 cases of magnums in October 2022.
The bubbles are very tiny and rise in beautiful streaming columns to form a perfect crown. The mission in crafting the dosage was to steer the wine stylistically to emphasize its bright, racy character with an all-Chardonnay dosage to give in maximum “pop.”
Available exclusively in magnum at Iron Horse Vineyards and on their website.
Iron Horse Co-Founder Audrey Sterling, always in the lead at age 91, came up with the name. I love this family and their story. Generations of wine lovers all dedicated to the craft.
Like everyone, Iron Horse was awestruck by NASA’s images, and it occurred to them that they could create something special –an out-of-this-world Sparkling Wine, to celebrate such an extraordinary scientific achievement and the astounding beauty it revealed.
NASA released the stunning image for the label of this Cuvée in July 2022. It shows the “Cosmic Cliffs” of the Carina Nebula. The scientists say it unveils the earliest, never seen before, rapid phases of star formation. What looks like a landscape on a starry night is gas and cosmic dust in an area where stars are born.
Remarkably, all the James Webb Space Telescope images are available on NASA’s website for open use. They are in the public domain. NASA just asked that interested parties send an email describing the intended use, which they did, of course. Each label at Iron Horse is a work of art, created by their label designer Mark Berry. It is a stunning addition to any wine lover’s collection!!
A beautiful bottle like this would make a wonderful gift for the holidays for your space and astronomy friends and family or also a fantastic way to pop a bottle to celebrate the New Year! Don’t you think?!

The Sonoma County Sparklings have been served and given as diplomatic gifts by the White House for seven consecutive Presidential Administrations, a history spanning 37 years. The family makes 20 distinct Sparkling Wine Cuvées, including a vintage Blanc de Blancs called Ocean Reserve, which helps protect the planet’s oceans. Iron Horse contributes $5 per bottle to help establish marine protected areas and reduce overfishing.
Iron Horse Chardonnay is considered a signature wine for the cool, foggy Green Valley region. Pinot Noir is the winery’s rising star wine. The property was named after a railroad stop, which crossed the property in the 1890s. The logo, the rampant horse on a weathervane, came from a 19th-century weathervane found while clearing away the rubble during construction.
2022 marks the family’s 46th vintage.
Three generations live on the estate, ranging from 28 years old to 91 years young.
