In a County dominated by wine, the chefs here are excellent at pairing food with the individual characteristics of a particular vintage.

When you are traveling to an award winning wine region, the focus will be on what’s in the bottle.

As most wine lovers also know, the enjoyment of a great wine can be heightened with the right food. In Sonoma County, they take their food and wine production seriously… yet another reason that visitors flock to this luxury destination for a taste.

A fantastic wine and food pairing adventure is like the holy grail of a visit to Sonoma. The experience usually stands out from the rest and like an uber terrific bottle that you just discovered… you want to SHARE it with others and tell people about what you saw, tasted and smelled.

With so many choices, it was hard to narrow down this list (in no particular order). New experiences pop up ALL the time.

1. Mayo Family Reserve Tasting Room

The 7 course menu is a seated tasting with wines and foods served in groups of three with a nice dessert plate and wine to round it all off in the end.

For a cost of only $40 and a low low price of only $25 for wine-club members, it is a true steal of a deal for visitors of tasting rooms in Sonoma County, California. The wow factor of the wines and spectacular food was high. You will find your senses of taste and smell are peaked as you savor each bite…..

2. St Francis Winery & Vineyards

Tasting wine without food is an exercise in futility. Voted #1 Restaurant in America again by Open Table in 2015, the food and wine is top notch at this winery.

20140927_133247Serving multi-course plates whose beauty rivals that of any Michelin starred restaurant, guests can expect to find a true foodie experience when scheduling a food and wine pairing at St Francis. This is a full meal.

The service, setting and style of the experience also leaves guests feeling that they just stepped out of the pages of a food and wine magazine shoot. While sitting at a half round communal table with views of the picturesque vineyards right outside and Mt Hood in the background, it seems like a window looking out on an Italian town…..

3. Lynmar Estate Winery

Take away  the conventional dining room, Insert a view of majestic vineyards, Frame with an edible bio-diverse garden, Enjoy an epicurean luxury afternoon.

20141009_144602Enjoy straight from the garden fresh food, featuring items sourced locally, paired by the Estate Chef with handcrafted Chardonnay & Pinot Noirs. It is quite the lunch experience. The greens in our salad were picked only moments before they were served. And came right from the dirt that we had just walked past on our tour.

They offer 20 handcrafted Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs, ranging from vineyard designates, to proprietary blends to appellation blends. Picnic lunches are are by appointment Wednesday through Sunday from May through October so visit soon…

4. Ram’s Gate Winery

Whether it’s with delightful conversation or a delicious culinary experience, each Ram’s Gate Winery tasting is, at its core, a pairing. Thoughtful Selections.

The winery sources fruit from the marquee vineyards of Sonoma and Carneros, resulting in an array of aromas, textures and flavors that go well with foods. Appointments are required for each type of tasting, offered Thursdays through Mondays beginning at 10:00am. Cheers!

5. Rodney Strong Vineyards

A visit to the Rodney Strong Tasting Room, is like a higher education on the terroir of Sonoma & the bounty of our food sources. Food & Wine Experience.

dsc_0023With 14 estate vineyards offering a “vineyard to glass” and sustainable approach to wine-making… Both locals and tourists alike lounge together on the patio and taste through the wines and food with leisure here.

Food paring including 5 bites flawlessly paired with five Rodney Strong wines. Open seasonally, on the outdoor summer terrace, visitors can enjoy an outdoor seated wine flight, including many exclusive bottles. One can even pair a wine flight with a locally sourced cheese & charcuterie plate for a snack along the road or perhaps spread a blanket on the expansive lawn for a picnic with a lovely bottle (or two).
